EVENT DESCRIPTION
The next event will be held on Sunday October 23, 2022, 1:30pm – 5:00pm and will feature musical performances on historic porches on Hampton Avenue, Pinckney Street, and Lloyd Street in the Hampton-Pinckney neighborhood. The event is free and open to the community.
EVENT PURPOSE
The purpose of this event is to highlight the array of local musical talent and historic architecture in Greenville while enjoying Greenville’s first National Historic District – Hampton Pinckney Historical Preservation Area. The Hampton-Pinckney Historic District has a legacy of successful community events which bring people together – in its second year, it is building upon our success and experience.

ca. 1850
An example of Italianate and Greek Revival architectural styles. Home of F.B. McBee, grandson of Vardy McBee, the father of Greenville.

The Gallivan house is a 2½ story brick structure with flared eves, and projecting gables with Palladian windows and modillions.

ca. 1874
The Landrum house is an eclectic house with Ionic columns grouped in three’s. Note the distinctive motif in the enlarged gable dormer projecting from a gambrel roof.

A handsome two-story Craftsman home with classical elements representing a transition of architectural styles.

ca. 1887
The two-story structure was constructed with hand-made bricks. The front entrance features a double door with transom surmounted by a hood with brackets and gingerbread freeze. The front façade features a central window with a tripartite with a fan motif flanked by two smaller windows with hooded fanlights. The walls are supported by buttresses.

The Sirrine house is a 1½ story Craftsman home with a hipped roof, prominent gable dormers, and distinctive stucco exterior.

C.O. Hobbs house is a Foursquare design with a wraparound porch and porte corche. Note the tapered paneled pillars and large front porch.

Louis Burdell Houston house has a unique large semi-circular porch, slate Hip roof and a prominent pediment over the front door.

Ligon, Jonathan T. and Janie, house is a one-story frame structure with clapboard siding and gable roof. A projecting gable forms a protruding bay and is flanked by a one-story porch with tapered pillars and turned balusters.

John T. Woodside’s house is a two-story Queen Anne frame structure with a wraparound porch.

A. For you? Nothing. We created this festival with goodwill in mind. Imagine an event where no one paid, and yet everyone benefitted?? Introducing… HP Porchfest. Our performers and porches were all given freely with one thing in mind – hospitality and community. However, please feel free to tip those who make you move your feet and get up off your seat (or grassy spot)!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q. I have no idea what I’m doing?
A. Sit back and relax. Catch up with some of your neighbors. Meet new ones. Here are a few suggestions to help you enjoy the day:
- Fill up your reusable water bottles
- Bring a lightweight chair or blanket to sit on
- Bring sunscreen or a hat, whatever is needed for an afternoon outdoors
- The streets where the event is happening will be closed to any motorized vehicles, including golf carts. Parking is available in numerous parking lots surrounding the area.
Q. Rules, what rules?
A. You are responsible for your own behavior, safety, and welfare at Porchfest. Everyone remains individually responsible to conduct themselves under civil regulations of law and order. However, we have a few rules to help everyone enjoy themselves and maintain a safe environment for all:
- Pack it in, pack it out: please only leave footprints and take only pictures.
- Stay out of the streets that are not specifically marked as blocked and remain safe, using all sidewalks and crosswalks.
- Remember that the porches are actual homesteads: be respectful of our host’s property.
- No coolers allowed.
- Follow all city ordinances – specifically, do not walk with an open container on any streets or sidewalks not blocked for the event. Look for the No Alcohol Beyond This Point signage.
- WRISTBAND POLICIES:
- As of July 1, 2005, the following guidelines are mandated through a city ordinance.
- Anyone 21 years old or older wishing to consume alcohol on public property must wear a City of Greenville approved Wristband.
- All individuals consuming alcohol on public property will be required to purchase a wristband for $1.00 from the event.
- Even patrons who are not wearing a valid wristband and who are in possession of and/or consuming alcoholic beverages will be charged with a violation of the alcohol policy.

It is unlawful for any person under the age of 21 to purchase or possess beer, wine or other alcoholic beverages.
SOUTH CAROLINA CODE OF LAW 61-9-60
It is unlawful for any person to purchase beer or wine on a licensed premises and give such beer or wine to a person to who beer and wine cannot be lawfully sold.
- Wristbands are REQUIRED on the blocked streets and sidewalks. If you are visiting a homeowner, you must have a wristband to walk off the property into the sidewalks and streets that are blocked off for the event.
- As of July 1, 2005, the following guidelines are mandated through a city ordinance.
- In case of emergency, call 911.

A. Centrally located within the historic residential district of downtown Greenville, various porches will host various artists throughout the afternoon.
